This is a bit of a fun one. I’d recently been tagged by Fire and Wide for the #awesomebloggeraward, which seems like a know-you-better type of post where you answer ten questions from the tagger, and in turn tag a few bloggers to answer ten questions of your own.
Thanks for tagging me, and so without further ado, here are your ahem, burning questions about me, answered.
Questions about me
If you could live anywhere in the world, where and why?
I’ve lived my entire life in Singapore, which is both a city and a country. While it is mostly efficient, I really hate that there’s no rural area, the year round heat is insane, and prices of homes and cars are off the charts.
If I could live anywhere in the world, I’d choose between Australia, New Zealand or Canada. They have good infrastructure in the cities, have mature economies, and beautiful, natural countryside for that weekend escape from the crazy urban lifestyle. They are also relatively safe nations to bring up a family.
What motivates you the most?
Learning about something new. A technology, a skill, a new way of doing something old. I am highly motivated for a short period of time. But in that time, I can learn a lot about a certain subject.
Most valuable life lesson learnt?
My mum worked hard, and saved hard her entire life. But she never did manage to enjoy her life, as shortly after her retirement, she got diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy. Her quality of life deteriorated as her mobility and neural functions decreased, and she finally succumbed to the illness after battling more than 7 years.
Her death sparked a change in me, and led me down the FIRE path. I don’t want to live my entire able-bodied life trying to make a living, only to maybe die when I’m finally ready (and much weaker) to “enjoy” life.
At the same time, I’m conscious of trying to also live for the moment, and cherish my time with my family.
What do you do purely for fun?
I love table tennis, and believe I am pretty good at it. Anyone up for a challenge?
What’s your best and worst quality?
I’m easily distracted. I think that qualifies as both my best and worst quality. I can hatch many ideas and explore many concepts, until the next idea comes along.
Questions about Blogging
What do you love most about blogging?
Blogging for me, gives me clarity of thought and an opportunity for me to review my feelings, thought process, and document my perspectives and how they change and evolve over time.
Absolute favourite blog post ever (not my own)
Tim Urban’s (of waitbutwhy) Life in Weeks post really hit me in the gut, to see that your entire lifespan can be mapped out in weeks, on a sheet of A4 paper. It really shows you how truly short life is.
Below is his illustration of a 90-year life in months. I mean, look at that. That’s fucking depressing! I know it’s supposed to be a favourite, but I think you see this, and it really hits you, and then it pushes you to take action. And that’s why it’s my favourite post of his. And he has many, many excellent posts.
Proudest achievement with your blog
I learnt about SEO 100% from working on the blog, and am most proud of one of my recent articles getting prominently featured on Google Discover, resulting in the highest traffic month since this blog started.
Best advice for new bloggers?
I subscribe to the “Don’t overthink it, or you’ll end up doing nothing” camp. So, sure, give it a thought, then go do something about it. If nothing else, you’ll come away learning how to do something and acquire a new skill you’ll have accumulated as part of your life experience.
What’s your ambition for your blog?
I want my blog to be a beacon of hope and education that you can have a rich life via multiple pathways, and side hustling your way to financial freedom is a viable pathway.
