Nope, definitely not Bonds. Nor is it Berkshire Hathaway. It’s Bitcoin! The ₿ Word is a Bitcoin focused initiative that aims to demystify and destigmatize mainstream narratives about Bitcoin, explain how institutions can and should embrace it, and raise awareness around areas of the network that need support.
Featured speakers at the ₿ word event includes CEO of ARK Invest Cathie Wood, CEO of Twitter and Square’s Jack Dorsey, CEO of Blockstream Adam Back, Lyn Alden and Nic Carter.
Elon Musk is also apparently scheduled to have a discussion session with Jack Dorsey.
When is the ₿ word event going to be held?
The ₿ word launches on 21 July as a live event, but also, I believe the content will sit on the ₿ word site to allow those who couldn’t participate in the event to consume these content at their own pace.
The ₿ word agenda
The launch event will feature 5 tracks, as well as a live session. Below are some details from the website.
Track 1: Demystifying Bitcoin
Twelve years into its creation, Bitcoin still struggles to gain institutional acceptance. While constructive criticism is warranted, most institutions are dismissing Bitcoin based on stale information and flawed analysis. In this track, Nic Carter, Arjun Balaji, Lyn Alden, Nate Maddrey and more aim to debunk the most common Bitcoin myths and points of criticism.
Track 2: Supporting the developer ecosystem
Thanks to millions of open-source developer hours, Bitcoin no longer is an obscure cryptographic toy but an open source financial network. In this track, John Newbery, John Pfeffer, Beth Kurteson, Neha Narula, and more explain why Bitcoin’s long-term success requires a sustainable funding model for open-source developers to maintain and extend the protocol.
Track 3: Securing the Bitcoin network
As the use of Bitcoin grows, the security of the network must grow and strengthen. Bitcoin’s security is predicated on the accuracy and robustness of the software and hardware running it, and the actions of those participating in the network. In this track, Matt Corallo, Adam Back, Cory Fields, and more detail why supporting Bitcoin requires understanding and proactively addressing its security risks.
Track 4: Regulating Bitcoin
Contrary to popular belief, Bitcoin is not an unregulated asset. As the next wave of participants adopt Bitcoin, it is imperative to continue to educate policymakers and advocate for sensible regulatory approaches to Bitcoin. In this track, hear what Hester Peirce, Peter Van Valkenburgh, Robin Weisman, and more have to say about regulating Bitcoin.
Track 5: Preserving the Bitcoin ethos
As the wave of interest from institutions continues to increase, Bitcoin faces an interesting tradeoff. Will the institutionalization of Bitcoin come at the expense of preserving Bitcoin’s primary value propositions? In this track, Alex Gladstein, Brett Winton and more discuss how to preserve the Bitcoin ethos.
Live Session: Bitcoin as a tool for Economic Empowerment
Featuring a panel of speakers, including Cathie Wood and Jack Dorsey, Steve Lee will moderate this lively discussion where nothing is off limits!
I believe this will also be the session where Elon Musk will probably drop by, perhaps at a later time, to add to the discussion. I don’t think he will sit in the entire session from the start, so as not to derail any original scope of discussion that Cathie and Jack had in mind. This should be an interesting watch for sure.
