As you can see on my Twitter profile, I’ve been on Twitter since 2007. However, I didn’t gain a lot of value from the platform in the beginning, and was kind of posting pretty random stuff, much like Facebook statuses in their initial days. I also posted sporadically, and didn’t have any specific voice or topics I stuck to. As a result, my twitter follower numbers were pretty sad and nothing to bark about.
Since I started this blog in 2019, I started to get a lot more focused on tweeting about the niche topics I blog about, and began finding a community of like-minded folks, and began to enjoy Twitter a lot more.
Month-on-month Twitter Growth 2020
The chart above shows my monthly new followers for 2020. This number aggregates the total nett new followers, meaning I may show a negative number like in October, if there are more people who unfollowed me than the new folks who followed me.
Thankfully there was only negative growth in one month of the year.
Across 2020, my twitter follower growth grew by 470, which I’m really pretty happy with, given that across 2019, my twitter growth was 179, which represents a 160% YoY growth.
I know, I know…. follower metrics are a vanity metric yada yada. Well, to me, it’s kind of a validation to the content that I tweet out that resonates with some folks (at least 470 of them!) so that’s good enough for me.
It’s also a great avenue for me to get exposure to very different perspectives around the world. Hopefully, I can continue to grow this platform and continue sharing and learning from like-minded FI folks!
